The Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu Ray Player Features Review
Posted by Chad in Blu Ray Players on February 13, 2010
Here comes a new 3D Bluray from Sony, the Sony BDP-S570 3D Bluray which would start kicking off and hitting the market and consumers by March 2010. This blu ray player was first unveiled at the recent CES 2010 tech showcase. I was really looking forward to this bluray player as I am very curious on how it would present 3D movies and other multimedia to consumers. Would it be like how IMAX Theaters present 3D movies to the moviegoers, with the use of 3D Glasses in order to harness and take advantage of the 3D goodness that the Sony bdp-s570 can provide.
Can one immediately enjoy great 3D movies and media once the Sony BDP-S570 starts to ship?
Well, not really, the new Sony BDP-S570 would be available to consumers without the 3D capability out of the box. You may be wondering why they call it the 3D Blu Ray Player if it is not capable of showcasing 3D capabilities, fret not since as you know, Sony has got a knack for constant firmware updates and upgrade for their gadgets and devices, much like what they did for the Sony PS3 which periodically recieves Firmware updates and upgrades to patch things up as necessarily. So that just means that once a new firmware is available the you would need to either upgrade your Sony BDP-S570′s firmware to the latest version so that it can be able to harness the 3D technology that its bragging about.

How and Where to Upgrade the Sony BDP-S570 Firmware?
You can either upgrade it online or offline. Online meaning you would need to let the Sony 3D Blu Ray player to have access to your internet connection so that it can simultaneously upgrade its firmware to the latest version that it needs to enable a certain feature that the Sony BDP S570 can harness, much like the 3D playback capability. You can also do the offline firmware upgrade for your Sony BDP S570, and many Sony PS3 users are aware of this method specially the ones who upgrade their PS3 consoles offline, which is by using a portable media device such as a USB Thumbdrive or and Memory card or even an external hard disk and have the firmware upgraded through the USB port. Of course for those who are not familiar, you would need to download the Sony BDP-S570 Firmware update first and then save it to the portable media device that you have and then updating your firmware through the USB Slot available for your 3D Blueray player.
Now on questions where to download the latest firmware of Sony BDP-S570, it would be available on Sony’s site on the Home and entertainment section. Its free don’t worry.
When would be the Sony BDP-S570 Firmware update be available?
It would be available around July 2010, so stay put and be ready to taste the 3D goodness right at your home or inside your room. Without it, your Sony 3D Bluray player would not be able to play 3D movies and videos.
Any 3D Blu Ray Problems after the Firmware upgrade?
Of course you cannot avoid some minor problems right after the update, there are times when the firmware update fixes everything, there are also times when the firmware update breaks everything and there are times when it fixes something and then breaking something. You never know unless you yourself experiences the phenomenon that early upgraders experience. This is also one of the reasons why I dont eagerly upgrade a firmware update right after hours of its release, instead I give it some time like a day or two until feedbacks regarding the new firmware update come rolling in, regardless whether it is good or not. I just dont want to risk my Sony BDP-S570 Blueray player.
Why isn’t my Sony BDP-S570 playing 3D quality movies and videos?
Unless you have already upgraded your BDP-S570 Firmware to the latest version, then you would not have awakened the hidden superpowers your Sony 3D Bluray player has in store for you. Another reason why you cannot see any 3D awesomeness is because the movie or video that you are watching might not be supporting it. You might have a few Blu Ray Titles on your arsenal but its just that those titles aren’t made for 3D which is one of the main reasons why you cannot see any 3D effect on the movie.
Another dead giveaway is that your HDTV does not support 3D movies and videos which is also on of the biggest reasons why your Sony BDP-S570 is not displaying 3D quality movies and videos. So even if you have a Sony 3D blueray player and a 3D movie Imax Version on hand, if your hdtv is not fit for the media you are feeding then you would not be able to see the raw power your Sony BDPS570 can give you.
Another thing is that you would need 3D glasses for viewing 3D content, or else everything would just be a blur.
You see, its not really rocket science, but its all about trial and error, but if you would want to avoid the hassle then just make sure that you are really a techbuff that you have all the latest gadgets that you would need. A 3D LED Flat panel, a 3D Blu Ray Player and a 3D movie, remember is just as easy as checking whether you appliance is turned on, if it is plugged in and if you have electricity.
I want to Pre-Order it but I want to know how much the Sony BDP-S570 weighs
The new Sony 3D Bluray player weighs around 2 kilograms, this statistic is useful specially for those who would order it online and have it shipped outside of the US territory. Mainly it is as heavy as the Samsung BD-P4600 for those who are looking for a good Bluray player from another brand, though it is much more expensive than this one which has the 3D capability compared to the Samsung Blu ray player brand. The Sony BDP-S570 costs around $250 and it starts to ship on March 9, 2010
Wifi / Wireless Lan Feature of Sony BDP-s570
Unlike other brands such as Samsung which needs a separate and sometimes sold separately USB Wireless Lan, this Sony BDPS570 has its wireless lan already built in to the unit so no need to order separate wlan and whatnot anymore. Now isn’t that great, this should have been done on other new blu ray players in the first place.
iPhone and iTouch compatibility, do I need a software for it?
Yes, and its available for download on the iTunes application store, you would need to install it to your iPhone or iTouch so that you can be able to use your mobile smartphone as a remote control or even a medium so that you can easily access detailed movie information like cast, director, genre, etc and mind you, it would connect using the wifi instead of bluetooth or whatnot so your iPhone or iTouch should be connected on the same wireless network as your Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu Ray Player.
Have you purchased your own Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu Ray Player? what can you say about it? any problems regarding the BDP-S570?? Lets share some thoughts down below the comments section.
