The Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player, hmm, I can say that it is second to the top of the latest Blu Ray Players that Sony is about to release for the year 2011. For the meantime though here are some of the things that you might want to know if ever you are scouting for a good blu ray player just like the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player.

The Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player is the next higher model that you can get from Sony right after the Sony BDP S480 Blu ray player which is also a standalone player for blu ray discs. The Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player has a lot of features that you can get once you learn through the ropes what this new monster has to offer for consumers to satisfy their hunger for anything high defintion.
The Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player has all the basic things for connectivity that other lower end models have like the online streaming on videos from Netflix, Youtube, Pandora and other media sites too, but one of the best things that the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player has that the lower end Blue ray players have is that this one has the WiFi built in, which means no need for any wifi adapters, or even tackling through long lines of LAN Cable. All you need is an internet connection with a wireless router of course and you can be able to stream videos straight from your Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player.
It also has apps readily available for iPhone and iPad user and even Android OS users. Another thing present here is the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player Homeshare Wireless Speakers that gives you high fidelity of your surround sound system no matter which part of the house you are in.
Here are some of the things that I encountered regarding the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player.
Is the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player 3D capable?
of course it is, but mind you that you might just encounter some problems though like the error saying, “THIS DISC HAS RECOGNIZED THAT YOUR PLAYER AND OR DISPLAY DOES NOT SUPPORT 3D PLAYBACK” which just means that either you are using the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player on a flat panel that does not support 3D media content or maybe there is something wrong with the settings of your Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player.
How much is the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player Price?
Well as of the moment of this posting there arent still any official news regarding the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player Price, but our guesstimate is that it is around $180 – $190 give or take.
Can I display a 3D content using the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player with just a regular blu ray disc movie?
the answer lies on the capability of your LED TV to show a 3D content on a non-3D media. Some of the LCD/LED TV may not some does, unfortunately though, regular discs would only show a regular content for the Sony BDP-S580 Blu Ray Player.

So looking at the Sony S580 vs LG BD670, which would you choose? How do they compare in up conversion, Do they support HDMI 1.4 (should I care)? Are both restricted from only transmitting 480i of component video for protected content? How are there load times compared?

Hi Michael,
If I were to choose between the Sony S580 vs the LG BD670, I’d go for the Sony S580, but it still depends on the HDTV that you would put it in, I mean some features would be unusable if you would cross brand your hdtv to your blu ray player.
Since I have a Sony Bravia, I would definitely vouch for the Sony BDP S580 no doubt since bravia sync and other features would not be wasted against the LG BD670, though I am not saying that the LG BD670 is not that bad either, but unless Im using a LG HDTV then I’d most certainly ditch the Sony BDP S580.
In terms of up conversion, I’d say the Sony wins the upper hand specially in terms of speed and quality though you would not notice much difference in quality when compared to the Sony S580, but speedwise I have seen the Sony perform better against LG’s BD670.
Both blu ray players support 1.3b but as far as 1.4 is concerned I think a simple firmware update of either the two would make them compatible for HDMI 1.4, but it would be useless unless you have a HDTV which has larger resolution than 1080p. You know, you wouldn’t necessarily need a HDMI 1.4 in order to be able to watch 3D media content, even 1.3b supports it, so instead of paying more for the HDMI 1.4 I’d recommend to stick to what you have, but if you have the money to spend then go for 1.4, at least you would be futureproofing your Blu Ray Player for the long haul.
Regarding the 480i of component video, well yeah it is, which is why well it far better to just go for the hdmi output so that you would not be restricted to 480i as the hdmi does not have any restrictions or limitations.
Load Times compared, as I have said, Sony wins the upper hand on this comparison but not as much that a normal user would even notice.

Hi! I would like to know if this model number Sony S580, 3D Blu ray player will be compatible with my Panasonic LCD screen. Will it still project the expected 3D effect. For this are 3D glasses provided or included in this player?

I am looking for a replacement for the panasonic BD 65. I had to send this one back to sears under the replacement warranty for a tech issue. Not sure whether to stick with panasonic, or try going back to Sony again. I have a pan 42 in plasma tv, not 3D
