Samsung BD-P4600 Blu Ray Player Review
Posted by Chad in Blu Ray Players on February 12, 2010
I have been scouting for a good Blu ray player and somewhat, the Samsung BD-P4600 is the brand and Bluray model that has been playing on my mind right now. I don’t know for sure but from what I see the bdp4600 is the bluray player that is currently on top of the list right now.
A few weeks later I have decided to buy the Samsung BD P4600 and decided to give it a stress test, and then evaluate and review it. This is not just for my benefit but for other people too, who are also looking for some decent bluray player on the market that can be worth their hard earned money for.
How much did the Samsung BD-P4600 Bluray Player cost?
The bdp4600 was priced around $350 which is good enough for a good bluray player to sit around your room to give you maximum high definition goodness without sacrificing the picture quality. I bet some people are aware that the Samsung bd-p4600 was put on sale along with some other tech products before the Superbowl 2010 such as the Samsung LED TV series 6 and 7 with model numbers UN46B600 and UN46B700 respectively. I think some other shops online do still offer the same promo even after a few days after the superbowl, but some of you may also be watchful if it is really worth it you if you can just settle for the dirt cheap bluray players out there.

Picture Quality of Samsung BD-P4600 Blu ray Player
You can bet that using stand alone bluray players would really give you the HD juice that you have been longing for, but I think that the question is quite broad in a sense but really, bluray players would really perform depending on the specs of your overall home entertainment package. It might underperform if you would not use the right equipments along with it, so you see, the performance of blu ray players such as the Samsung BD-P4600 really depends on your rig and everything in between.
Lets say you have the Samsung P4600 Bluray player, but then you only have the Samsung 32 inch LCD TV or other Samung lcd tv’s which are a bit smaller like let’s say, 26 inches or even 22 inches, even with your high powered Samsung P4600 on your arsenal it would still not stand up to par unlike if the bd player would be used alongside top of the line HDTV’s like Samsung LED UN46B6000 or even UN46B7000 or lets even say Samsung 40″ inches Series 5, 6, and 7.
Can you see the trend there? You won’t experience that much high definition unless you have an LCD or LED TV that is above 40 inches. Im not saying though that you should go for the 40 inches and higher but I am comparing and contrasting the possibilities if you would use the Samsung P4600 Blueray player on a much smaller lcd or led tv screens… But if you are not that videophile then I myself cant even stop you from using the Bdp4600 of samsung.
What about Home theaters? Should one opt for the Samsung Home theatres along with the Samsung BD -4600?

Well, not really, but you would experience some benefits and features that you can’t use if you are not using the same brand all along. Lets say you have a Samsung LCD TV and a Samsung bluray player but you have got another brand of Home theater, well let’s say the Sony one’s, then you would still benefit from having a home theater just like as if you were with a Samsung HT models like the HTZ-222 and such.
Speaking of Samsung BD-P4600 features, what are the ones to look out for?
Well, there are certain mechanisms that would only work if you have the full Samsung Package, and mostly one of the most common ones that has this capability even on other brands like Sony, LG, or even Panasonic and Toshiba or Sharp, which is the BD-Wise. I know it might sound a bit different on other brands but its just the same thing. You know, the capability of the Home theater itself to adjust to the optimal settings automatically without you having to do the dirty work just like upscaling a DVD movie into a wide screen format or also simultaneous BD-wise mechanisms such as simultaneous off wherein if you would turn off you Samsung LCD TV, the Samsung Bluray Player would also shut off along with the home theater and vice versa, vice versa meaning by turning on the tv, the p4600 would also turn on. And not the other way around as it would be a hassle if you dont need the home theater but you cant since if you would turn it off, the goes the lcd tv too, well not quite like that if you get what I mean.
What about Multimedia Content? is it also enabled on the Samsung BD-P4600?
Yes and No, I mean, Yes, the Samsung BDP4600 is WiFi capable and no, unless you have the WIS09ABGN or what we call the Samsung wireless USB Adaptor or adapter, without it then your Samsung BDp4600 is not capable of Wifi, pc streaming, file sharing on your pc, on your Samsung LCD TV or even to hometheater models that support wireless speakers. Some stores do ship it along with the WIS09ABGN Samsung Wireless adaptor, while some are sold separately. It really depends much on the store that would provide you with the Samsung p4600 blu ray player.
How Much is the WIS09ABGN? Is it necessary to have one?

It costs around $80 if you would buy it separately, and unless you would want to stream videos that are saved on your PC or if you have a home theater which supports wireless Speakers then this one is a must, but since you can still stream videos from your PC using the wired Lan with a RJ-45 cable (the one used on a typical lan network) or even through the usb ports located on the Samsung P4600 or even the Samsung TV itself, then you would not really need to have one, if you are one of those unlucky guys and gals who were not able to get a free one with your Samsung Blu Ray Player package.
Im confused, there are so many models of Samsung P4600, which is which?
You’re not alone, me too. Actually I have seen a Samsung BD-P4600 which is just plain black and the other one has a touch of color, you know, the samsung trademark where a tinge of red can be seen on the edge of samsung products. But as far as the features and capability are concerned, its just one in the same, the Touch of Color version just came out along to be partnered with the Samsung LED TV, but still its a twin with the Plain Samsung BDp4600 which is mostly partnered with Samsung LCD TV, series 5 and below that is, since Samsung LCD TV series 6 and above also do have the Red bezel “Touch Of Color” look into it.
Other More Additional Features that I need to know with Samsung BD-P4600?

Hmm, lets see, with the Samsung P4600, you can also stream share and watch videos from and to Youtube, Netflix, Blockbuster and even stream music through Pandora. But I guess you would more than use the latter three than the Pandora as streaming music through your Samsung Player is possible, but a bit much hassle if you ask me. Id rather listen to radio on the portable radio that I have or even through my mobile phone rather than on my BD Player… But that is just me. Make sure though that you are connected to the internet either wirelessly through the Samsung Wireless USB Adapter or through your Lan.
What about ports, does the Samsung BD-P4600 have any ports for other multimedia sources?
Nope, no SD Card slot but there is a USB Slot, you can use it for USB Storage devices used for upgrading the firmware of the player, or if you would use the wireless usb adapter.
is the Samsung BDP4600 heavy? and how heavy is it?
someone asked me this question, well, its around 2 kilograms and it ultra portable specially that it is thin ans slim enough to be carried around effortlessly. I think this thing was asked because it might be for shipping purposes since packages are weighed and whatnot.
What about the Power Consumption?
well unlike the convetional bluray player, the PS3, which is an electricity hogger, this one operate rather at a low wattage of 25W. Now that is so good for your electric bills compared with the Sony PS3 which guzzles up around 350 watts.
So, I think that is all that I know of with my newly bought slightly used Samsung BD-P4600. Now my PS3 can take a rest and leave the movie work to the Samsung BD Player that I have got.
